Highest Innings Totals in IPL: The most runs ever scored by a team in IPL history was 263 by Royal Challengers Bangalore against Pune Warriors India. On April 28, 2023, when they played Punjab Kings, Lucknow Super Giants had the second-highest IPL team score.
One reason the Indian Premier League has been such a huge success is that teams have sometimes put up incredible scores. In T20 cricket, teams don’t often score more than 200 runs, but IPL teams have done it quite often.

Highest Team Score in IPL:
In 2013, Royal Challengers Bangalore beat Pune Warriors India to set a new record. By batting first, RCB got the best score in IPL history: 263/5 in 20 overs. This was helped by Chris Gayle’s record-setting 175*. The score is still the most points ever scored by a team in the IPL. RCB also has the second-highest team score in the IPL. In 2016, they scored 248/3 against Gujarat Lions.
Royal Challengers Bangalore – 263/5 vs Pune Warriors India (Highest Innings Totals in IPL)
When a Gayle storm hit M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Pune Warriors India was in the middle of it. On April 23, 2013, a tragic night, Chris Gayle left Pune and broke records all along the way. He hit 175*, which is still the best score by a single player in IPL and T20 cricket to this day. Gayle scored the fastest century in IPL history by hitting 13 fours and 17 huge sixes. AB de Villiers smoked 31 runs off just 8 balls to help RCB reach 263/5, which is the best team score in IPL history. This is also the best score for RCB in the IPL.
Pune’s answer was so bad that they couldn’t even finish, and they were only able to score 133/9 in their 20 overs. Because of his record, it wasn’t a surprise that Gayle was named Player of the Match. The RCB score of 263/5 is by far the best in IPL.
Lucknow Super Giants – 257/5 vs Punjab Kings
On April 28, 2023, when Lucknow Super Giants got off to a fast start against Punjab Kings at the Mohali Stadium, they had no idea that they would be able to keep the run rate steady for the whole 20 overs.
In the first innings, when they were batting, Kyle Mayers, Ayush Badoni, Marcus Stoinis, and Nicholas Pooran all hit 50s and 40s quickly to help make a huge score of 257/5. Punjab was out after scoring 201 runs, and Naveen-ul-Haq and Yash Thakur took a total of seven wickets.
Royal Challengers Bangalore – 248/3 vs Gujarat Lions
Over the years, Royal Challengers Bangalore has had some of the most powerful batters in all of cricket. It’s not surprising that the Bengaluru club also has the second-highest score in the IPL. In IPL 2016, this one was against the Gujarat Lions, who are no longer in business. Gayle was out early this time, but Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers chose to put on a show for the crowd in Bengaluru. As RCB hit their way to 248/3 in 20 overs, the 229 runs they scored together for the second wicket broke a record.
Kohli hit 109 off of 55 balls, with five fours and eight sixes. De Villiers, on the other hand, hit 129* off of 55 balls. The goal was too high for Gujarat, who could only score 104 runs in 18.4 overs. Player of the Match was given to De Villiers because of how well he played.
Chennai Super Kings – 246/5 vs Rajasthan Royals
The three-time IPL champions, the Chennai Super Kings, are also not too far behind when it comes to the highest score in the game. In IPL 2010, Chennai Super Kings beat Rajasthan Royals at MA Chidambaram Stadium with a huge score of 246/5. This was helped by M Vijay’s incredible score of 127. This is still the third-best score in IPL history.
But, unlike the other games on this list, this one was very close. In the chase, Naman Ojha came out swinging and scored 94 off 55 balls, while Shane Watson scored 60 off 25 balls. Rajasthan Royals were in the game the whole time, but in the end, they ran out of steam and lost by 22 runs. This is still one of the IPL games with the most runs scored.
Kolkata Knight Riders – 245/6 vs Punjab Kings
Kings XI Punjab or Punjab Kings don’t have the best way to play. It is important that they have gone for a lot of runs over the years. In May 2018, Sunil Narine and the powerful Kolkata Knight Riders were up against Punjab. When the guys in purple batted first, Narine’s 36-ball 75 helped them score 245/6 in 20 overs. The goal was always going to be huge, and even though Punjab came close, they were only able to score 214/8. Punjab couldn’t handle Narine’s anger on that particular day.
