Zahir Khan Biography

Zahir Khan, an Afghan cricket player, was born on December 20, 1998. In September 2019, he made his Test debut for the Afghanistan cricket team. On November 21, 2015, he made his Afghanistan first-class debut against Papua New Guinea in the 2015–17 ICC Intercontinental Cup. He participated in the 2016 Under-19 Cricket World Cup for the Afghanistan U-19 team.

Domestic career of Zahir Khan

On August 10, 2017, he made his List A debut for the Band-e-Amir Region during the Ghazi Amanullah Khan Regional One Day Tournament. With twelve dismissals, he shared the tournament’s top wicket-taking honors with Karim Janat. On September 12, 2017, he played his first Twenty20 match for Mis Ainak Knights in the Shpageeza Cricket League.

He switched to Lancashire in England in August 2018 for the remainder of the campaign. With thirty dismissals in five games, he has the most wickets taken in the 2019 Ahmad Shah Abdali 4-day Tournament.

T20 franchise career of Zahir Khan

He was included on Nangarhar’s roster for the inaugural Afghanistan Premier League competition in September 2018. Following the Bangladesh Premier League draught for the 2018–19 season, he was selected for the Khulna Titans side in October 2018.

He joined the Indian Premier League’s Rajasthan Royals in 2018, but was forced to miss the entire season due to injury. Zahir signed with the Brisbane Heat for the Big Bash League for the 2019–20 season after playing for the Jamaica Tallawahs in the Caribbean Premier League in 2019. He said, “This is a really exciting thing for me, especially to be joining the team where my good friend Mujeeb played last year. International career of Zahir Khan:

Afghanistan selected him for the 2018 Under-19 Cricket World Cup in December 2017. Rajasthan Royals acquired Zahir during the 2018 IPL auction in January 2018. In December 2018, he was selected for Afghanistan’s under-23 squad for the ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup. In May 2018, Afghanistan played their first-ever Test match against India. However, he was not selected for the program.

As part of the Afghan cricket team against Ireland in February 2019, Zahir played both One Day Internationals (ODIs) and Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is). On March 10, 2019, he played his first ODI for Afghanistan against Ireland. He was included in Afghanistan’s Test squad for the one-off match against Ireland after the ODI series was over, however he did not participate.

He was included in the Afghanistan Test squad for their one-off match against Bangladesh in August 2019. On September 5, 2019, he played in his first Afghanistan Test against Bangladesh. He was a reserve player for Afghanistan’s Twenty20 International (T20I) team for their series against Zimbabwe in May 2022. On February 19, 2023, he played his first T20 International for Afghanistan against UAE.
