After a successful domestic season in 2013–14, Taijul was chosen for Bangladesh A. He later made his Test debut for Bangladesh during the 2014 tour of the West Indies. On his debut, he took five wickets, and later that year, when Zimbabwe toured Bangladesh. He took statistics of 8/39, the greatest by any Bangladeshi at the Test level. Later in the series, he played his first ODI and scored a hat-trick, becoming the first player to do so.

Domestic career of Taijul Islam:

Taijul has participated in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) for Duronto Rajshahi, the Dhaka Premier Division for Prime Doleshwar SC, and the Rajshahi Division and North Zone. During the National Cricket League’s 2010–11 season, he made his first-class debut with Rajshahi Division. With Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club, Taijul was able to play in the Dhaka Premier Division during the 2011–12 season, one of the nation’s top one-day leagues despite not yet having list-A status.

At the end of December 2013, Taijul participated in a brief Victory Day Cup series on behalf of another Prime Bank Limited-sponsored team. In the contest, which was his second Twenty20 tournament of the year after representing Rajshahi Division at the Bangladesh Games in April, he played seven games.

Following the Bangladesh Premier League draft for the 2018–19 season, Taijul was selected for the Khulna Titans side in October 2018. With thirteen dismissals in twelve games, he was the team’s top Wicket-taker in the competition. He was one of 35 cricketers selected for a training camp in August 2019 to prepare for the 2019–20 season in Bangladesh.. Rajshahi Royals selected him to represent them in the 2019–20 BPL.

International career of Taijul Islam:

In May 2014, Taijul was selected for Bangladesh A’s 15-man squad for their tour of the West Indies. Later in the year, in August and September 2014, the senior team of Bangladesh also undertook a visit. Taijul was a late replacement for fellow left-arm spinner, Abdur Razzak, in the Bangladeshi team for the Two-Test series. He bowled the most of the West Indies’ first innings of 484/7 declared at Kingstown’s Arnos Vale Ground (on Saint Vincent) debut. Taking 5/135 while partnering with off-spinner Shuvagata Hom, who was also playing in his first Test match.

On December 1, 2014, Taijul played in his first One Day International for Bangladesh against Zimbabwe. He finished with 4/11 from seven overs, including a hat-trick. After Shahadat Hossain, Abdur Razzak, and Rubel Hossain, he became the fourth Bangladeshi to score a hat-trick in an ODI, and the first to do it in his ODI debut. During the 2015 World Cup, held in Australia and New Zealand, Taijul was part of Bangladesh’s roster. However, he only participated in one game, taking 0/58 against New Zealand.

He was a member of Bangladesh’s Test and ODI team for their May 2022 trip of the West Indies. He was left off the starting lineup for the Test series and the opening two ODI games. Inclusion in the starting lineup for the third ODI marked his return to the format after his last appearance against Zimbabwe in March 2020. This was his highest bowling figure in ODIs, a five-wicket haul for 28 runs. His bowling contributed to Bangladesh’s 3-0 victory in the ODI series.
