In late 2017, Sharma was named India’s T20 captain when regular captain Virat Kohli was rested for a three-match series against Sri Lanka. He has led India in 44 games since then, winning 35 and losing nine.

Rohit Sharma Captaincy Record: T20 (Overall)
In the winter of 2017, Sharma made his T20I captaincy debut in the absence of regular captain Virat Kohli in the 3-match T20I series against Sri Lanka. That series was won by India 3-0. In 2018, he led India to the Nidahas Trophy title before whitewashing the West Indies at home. In February 2019, Rohit lost his first and only T20I series in New Zealand. On home soil, India lost their first-ever T20I to Bangladesh under his leadership.
Having been appointed full-time captain post the 2021 T20 World Cup, Rohit has clean swept the likes of the West Indies (at home and away), Sri Lanka (at home and away) so far.
