In Indian cricket, not everyone is lucky.

Yes, many domestic superstars failed internationally. They were state stars but failed on the big stage. Some cricketers were so unlucky that an all-time great took their spot.

Well, let’s take a look at the Indian cricketers who have had the worst luck:

10. Irfan Pathan:

The next Kapil Dev was Irfan Pathan. At his best, he bowled deadly swinging deliveries. Pathan, however, struggled to fit in. It’s mostly due to captains’ changing styles. His captaincy changed. Dhoni replaced Dravid. Pathan was Dhoni’s first all-rounder, but since 2012, he hasn’t played. The all-form rounder’s dipped, making consistency extremely harder.

Pathan has 29 Tests. He should have played more Tests with a 31.57 all-rounder average. He also has 100 Test wickets for his country. Irfan was much more than a benchwarmer. Pathaan is at number ten on Unlucky Cricketers List.

9. Ambati Rayudu:

“Indian cricket’s future.” After 16-year-old Ambati Rayudu hit the ball well in 2001, pundits remarked this. He captained the 2004 Indian Under-19 semi-finalists within three years. He deserved the biggest stage. Rayudu became a key member of the Mumbai Indians. He joins Chennai Super Kings in the 2018 auction while anchoring the squad. He is still enjoying the franchise.

Rayudu was talented enough to play for India. 55 national ODIs followed. He averaged 47.06 in the format despite a good strike rate. He offered more with 1694 runs. Rayudu retired after not making the 2019 World Cup. He recovered.

8. Manoj Tiwary:

Manoj Tiwary was one of the unluckiest cricketers. He scored 796 runs at 99.5 in 2006-2007 Ranji. In 2008, he was jetlagged before debuting. At Brisbane, Bret Lee overpowered him. After Rohit Sharma was injured, he joined the national team in 2011. Tiwary did okay. He scored his first ODI century against West Indies in Chennai. Lucky Tiwary was benched following that series.

He made the 2012 ICC World T20 squad after winning domestic tournaments. He missed two seasons due to injuries. Tiwary is a politician and will not return at 35.

7. Robin Uthappa:

Rahul Dravid’s team regularly included Robin Uthappa. India B’s 2005 and 2006 Challenger Series batsman was constant. Robin was selected for the 2007 World Cup after scoring 86 runs on debut at Indore. He won the inaugural T20 World Cup. India won the 2008 CB series with him. He struggled following the 2008 Asia Cup. Robin struggled to make the team when Suresh Raina and Virat Kohli emerged.

After 660 runs in the 2014 IPL, he got the Orange Cap. After that, his form dropped again, making national team selection nearly difficult. Robin lost his touch just before making the national team.

6. S Badrinath:

IPL fans recall Badrinath saving the Chennai Super Kings in the early seasons. In 2007, Badrinath impressed selectors with his runs against Zimbabwe and Kenya. He played versus Australia later.n He didn’t get a game. He scored 659 domestic runs at 65.90 that year. Badrinath debuted in 2008 when India toured Sri Lanka. He and Dhoni helped India win.

5. Sheldon Jackson:

3.  Murali Kartik:

Murali Kartik is now commentating. Before taking the mic, he was a great spinner. He helped spin pitches. Kartik was one of the few players recalled during commentating. Kartik played 8 Indian Tests. He took 24 wickets with a high of 4/44. He debuted against South Africa at Wankhede Stadium in 2000. His Test career lasted four years.

Murali took 37 wickets in 37 ODIs. His best bowling figure is 6/27. Murali felt unlucky since Kumble and Harbhajan were at their best when he played. He missed the national team.

2. Parthiv Patel:

At 17, Parthiv Patel became India’s 244th Test player and youngest wicketkeeper. Technically sound and secure wicketkeeper. In 2003, he played for India. However, Rahul Dravid was reliable and safe. Sourav Ganguly could add another bowler. Parthiv warmed the benches due to team instability.

MS Dhoni’s arrival again eliminated Parthiv. Dhoni gave gloves greater power and security. Thus, he played eleven. Parthiv scored 934 Test runs in 25 matches. For a 17-year-old who debuted internationally, this is too low.

1. Wasim Jaffer:

Wasim Jaffer is a Ranji Trophy run-scorer. His strong wrist allowed him to stay in the crease. He made the national team in 2000 after succeeding domestically. Jaffar scored 46 runs in four innings against South Africa. He was dropped after touring England. His domestic form attracted the selectors. He opened with Dinesh Karthik on his second England trip.
