Delhi Capitals is a talented IPL squad. The Delhi franchise has played in the IPL since its inaugural season in 2008. Delhi Daredevils became Delhi Capitals in December 2018. The 2019 IPL team is called “Delhi Capitals.” The new team name honors Delhi as the national capital. The team’s owners say that, like Delhi, the national capital, the Delhi IPL franchise wants to be the championship’s center of the action.

IPL 2008:

Delhi Capitals opened their first IPL season with two wins over Rajasthan Royals and Deccan Chargers. They lost the third match against Kings XI Punjab but won the next two. Delhi lost the next 4 matches, but they won 3 in the second half of the group round to qualify for the playoffs. They lost to Rajasthan Royals in the Eliminator stage and left the league in 4th place.

IPL 2009:

Delhi’s second IPL season was notable. The team topped the points table for the first time. Gautam Gambhir became captain to start the season. The 2009 Delhi IPL team possessed world-class batsmen and bowlers, propelling them to the top of the points table. The season started with a hat-trick victory over Kings XI Punjab, Chennai Super Kings, and Royal Challengers Bangalore. The team won 10 of 14 matches. To reiterate, AB de Villiers scored one of the two IPL hundreds in 2009. Delhi lost to Deccan Chargers in the semi-finals and missed the final.

IPL 2010:

Delhi started the third season of the Indian Premier League by beating Kings XI Punjab and Rajasthan Royals. After three losses, they won four straight. After wins, Kolkata Knight Riders, Kings XI Punjab, and Mumbai Indians lost. Delhi defeated Chennai Super Kings in the next match. They lost their first match to Deccan Chargers and missed the semi-finals. They won 7 of 14 matches and finished 5th in the League.

IPL 2011:

Delhi’s 2011 IPL season was likely its poorest. The team lost several games due to poor play and finished last in the points table. Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals defeated them to start the season. They defeated Pune Warriors in their third encounter but lost the next. After beating Kings XI in the 5th match, Delhi lost every match except two. The team won 4 of 14 matches.

IPL 2012:

Delhi excelled again in the 2012 IPL. After 2009, it regained the points lead. In 2012, the Delhi team worked hard to improve after two years of criticism. They bought big names like Kevin Pietersen, Mahela Jayawardene, and Ross Taylor, which helped the team. Delhi won their season opener against Kolkata Knight Riders. After losing the second, they won three straight. Delhi Daredevils won 11 of 16 matches to win the points standings. They fell against Chennai Super Kings in the qualifiers and missed the final.

IPL 2013:

Delhi struggled in the 2013 IPL. They won their first match of the season against Mumbai Indians after six consecutive losses. Mahela Jayawardene and Virender Sehwag helped Delhi win their season opener. Kings XI Punjab defeated them again after that. Pune Warriors and Kolkata Knight Riders won the next two matches. After that, Delhi lost all 16 matches, winning only 3. Delhi finished bottom on the points table in their worst year.

IPL 2014:

Delhi opened the 2014 season with 600 million USD to spend on new players and maximum “right-to-match” cards at auction. The team lost its first League match again. They beat Kolkata Knight Riders in the second match. Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated them again. The 5th match versus Mumbai Indians was their last win of the season. The team won two of 14 matches and finished bottom of the points standings.

IPL 2015:

Delhi Daredevils lost their 2015 opener to Chennai Super Kings by 1 run. Rajasthan Royals defeated them again. The 3rd and 4th matches against Kings XI Punjab and Sunrisers Hyderabad were their first wins. Delhi lost their 5th match to Kolkata Knight Riders but won their 6th match against Mumbai Indians. Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated them next. Delhi won 5 of 14 matches and ended 7th on the points standings.

IPL 2016:

Delhi had a superior 2016 IPL. Yuvraj Singh and Angelo Mathews left that season. In the 9th season, the club added Pawan Negi, Sanju Samson, Karun Nair, Chris Morris, Joel Paris, and Sam Billings. The team lost its first match to Kolkata Knight Riders but won its following three against KXIP, RCB, and MI. They beat KKR and GL but lost against Gujarat Lions again. The team won 7 of 14 matches. Delhi Daredevils finished 6th on the points standings and missed the playoffs.

IPL 2017:

Delhi Daredevils started 2017 poorly without Duminy and De Kock. They relied on a somewhat inexperienced line-up, comprising Shami, Chris Morris, Pat Cummins, Amit Mishra, Kagiso Rabada, and others. Naturally, Zaheer Khan led the team. Delhi lost to RCB but won their following two matches against Rising Pune Supergiant and Kings XI Punjab. They dropped five consecutive matches before beating Sunrisers Hyderabad. They won 6 of 14 matches and ended 6th in the points standings.

IPL 2018:

Delhi struggled again in the 2018 IPL. After losing to Rajasthan Royals, the team triumphed against Mumbai Indians. They dropped three more matches to KKR, RCB, and KXIP. After beating Kolkata Knight Riders, they lost to Chennai Super Kings. Delhi won 4 of 14 matches and ended last in the points table.

IPL 2019:

After six years of struggle, Delhi had a better 12th IPL season. The squad could reach the playoffs again. They beat Mumbai Indians in the season opener but fell to CSK in the second match. The team lost to Punjab and Hyderabad after beating KKR in the third match. The team recovered and won the next three matches. Delhi Capitals finished 3rd on the points rankings after winning 9 of 14 matches. They defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Eliminator stage but lost to Chennai Super Kings in the Qualifier round and missed the final. Delhi Capitals debuted in the 2019 IPL.

IPL 2020:

This team has not improved much since 2008, but in 2020 it performed miraculously. Players have played well and determinedly in most departments. IPL 2020 Delhi Capitals performed well. Captain Shreyas Iyer was young. Delhi Capitals bowled well in IPL 2020. Kagiso Rabada, the team’s seam bowler, got a purple cap for the most wickets in IPL 2020. IPL 2020 runners-up DC They lost the finals to Mumbai Indians. Marcus Stoinis helped Delhi. Marcus Stoinis excelled for DC throughout the competition. Delhi Capitals won 8 of 14 league matches and finished 2nd. In IPL 2020, they lost to Mumbai but beat Sunrisers Hyderabad in the second qualifier. Delhi lost four matches to Mumbai. This youthful Delhi team improved greatly.

Team Captain:

The 2008 IPL’s first captain was Virender Sehwag. 2009 skipper Gautam Gambhir. Virender Sehwag was reappointed captain in 2011 and remained captain until 2012. The 2013 IPL captain was Mahela Jayawardene. Kevin Pietersen captained IPL 2014. JP Duminy was a captain in 2015 and Zaheer Khan in 2016. Team Owner:

Since 2008, the Delhi team has been owned by GMR Group, a major property development company. But in March of 2018, GMR sold JSW Sports a 50% stake. At the moment, GMR Group and JSW Sports both own Delhi Capitals.
