IPL 2008:
Kolkata Knight Riders was one of two teams to start the inaugural Indian Premier League season at Eden Gardens. Sourav Ganguly was the team captain and icon. Kolkata won their first two IPL matches against Royal Challengers Bangalore and Deccan Chargers. Brendon McCullum’s 158 in KKR’s debut match stunned the cricket world and helped the team win. KKR only won 6 of 14 matches after that. The 6th-placed team missed the playoffs.
IPL 2009:
KKR’s poorest season was the 2nd IPL. The team finished last in the points table with 3 wins and 10 losses. The team dropped in the IPL points rankings after 9 straight losses. KKR’s captain changes caused controversy. Brendon McCullum captained KKR in most 2009 IPL matches. KKR was the richest IPL team despite the losses.
IPL 2010:
Kolkata Knight Riders’ third IPL season was better. The team bought Shane Bond and reappointed Ganguly as captain. Dav Whatmore replaced John Buchanan after a bizarre 2009. KKR won the first two matches of the 3rd IPL. After three losses, they won most of their home games. The squad tied with Delhi Daredevils, Chennai Super Kings, and Delhi Daredevils after group stage. NRR prevented the squad from making the playoffs.
IPL 2011:
Kolkata Knight Riders’ 4th IPL season was controversial but successful. Ganguly was released as the organisation overhauled its roster. Bengal, India, and the world protested the former captain’s release. In the 2011 auction, KKR bought top Indian and international cricketers. Gautam Gambhir was bought for a record 2.4 million USD and named captain. Yusuf Pathan, Jacques Kallis, Brad Haddin, Shakib Al Hasan, James Pattinson, and others joined.
The team won the next three matches after losing their 4th season opener. KKR made their first playoff appearance in 2011. In the Eliminator, Mumbai Indians overcame them.
IPL 2012:
Kolkata Knight Riders’ Indian Premier League graph changed in the 5th season. Kolkata defeated Chennai Super Kings in their inaugural IPL season. The team lost its first two games. The team improved in the 3rd and 4th matches, defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore and Rajasthan Royals. After another loss, KKR won 6 straight. They dropped the next matches but came back to beat CSK in the final. Sunil Narine won Man of the Series.
IPL 2013:
The defending IPL champions struggled in the 6th season. They won 6 of 16 matches. They finished 7th in the group stage before departing the IPL for the year. KKR players shined despite the team’s poor result. Sunil Narine took 22 wickets in 16 matches. Gambhir impressed with his batting, but KKR missed the playoffs due to lack of teamwork.
IPL 2014:
Kolkata Knight Riders won their 2nd IPL title in the 7th season. Kolkata opened the 2014 IPL by re-signing Shakib, Yusuf Pathan, Kallis, and others. The team started with a win but lost subsequent matches. Gambhir switched Uthappa to open, which performed well and won the season for Kolkata. KKR won the following 7 games on arrow and entered the playoffs by beating CSK on points. The team defeated Kings XI Punjab in the Eliminator stage and again in the final.
IPL 2015:

The squad qualified for the Playoffs in 4th place but lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Eliminator round by 22 runs.
IPL 2017:
Kolkata Knight Riders finished third in the 10th Indian Premier League. This time, Kolkata added Trent Boult, Rishi Dhawan, Chris Woakes, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Darren Bravo, and others. Kolkata Knight Riders reached the Playoffs again. They won the Eliminator round but lost the Qualifying final and finished 3rd on the points standings.
IPL 2019:
Kolkata Knight Riders retained most of their players and added 9 more for the 12th Indian Premier League season. Lockie Ferguson, Carlos Brathwaite, Nikhil Naik, Anrich Nortje, etc. Two consecutive wins over Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kings XI Punjab started the season. With powerful hitters like Karthik and Andre Russell and great wicket-takers like Narine, the squad was projected to make the Playoffs, but it finished 5th.
IPL 2020:
Kolkata Knight Rider has won one tournament championship. This team is a dark horse because its performance has fluctuated. KKR underperformed in IPL 2020. In the second part of the tournament, Eoin Morgan took over from Dinesh Karthik. KKR lost momentum. The franchise struggled with Pat Cummins. The team spent a lot on him, yet he underperformed. In IPL 2020, Andre Russell struggled and was injured. Shubman Gill helped KKR in IPL 2020. He excelled for KKR all season. IPL 2020 saw KKR’s lowest total.
